my vintage book haul (part 2)

As promised, here are a few peeks into my two current favourite books, both of which I picked up for a few pennies whilst staying with my lovely friend (thanks Emma for showing me around the BEST charity shops and outdoor bookshop ever!)

The first one is 'The House of Four Seasons' by Roger Duvoisin. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, I cannot stop looking through it. One ay I hope to live in a house like this one!  (you can get a copy through amazon here though it doesn't show the cover so I'm not sure if all the copies will be the same.)

(ahhhhhh look at the pink owl!)

Secondly is 'A Child's Book of Dogs' by Luis M Henderson. Obviously I love anything to do with dogs, and that yellow cover with doggy illustrations totally won me over. (you can get a copy through Amazon here but again there is no photo so I'm not sure it's an identical copy)

(love all the dog heads on the first page!)

I love having stacks of pretty or interesting books around to look at - I find them so inspiring! What are your favourite books at the moment?xoxo

my vintage book haul (part 1)

A few weeks ago I went to stay with my bestie Emma. She planned out two days full of charity shop rummaging, plus a few extra treats. The charity shops alone were enough to make me consider a move out of London - I got loads of awesome stuff for mere pennies! But it was the huge outdoor bookshop in Hay-on-Wye she took me too that really won me over. It's basically an outdoor area full of shelves of books. You really have t rummage to find the good stuff, but there are so many good books it was worth it! And the best bit? They were 30p or 50p each! Here are a few shots of the books I picked up...

I sort of collect stamps, so obviously this came home with me // that beautiful cover, plus the fact that I love pretending to be French made this one a winner

birdwatchers handbook - do I need to explain this one?! // I loved the cover of this book, even if it's totally unrelated to the subject (it's a book for teaching English!)

I love nature books, but it was the colours on the dust jacket that really caught my eye // the illustration on the cover of this copy of The Yearling is my favourite

this was inside one of the books I bought - definitely one for the pinboard (god I love old ephemera like this, especially if it's book related)

I got these books purely for the illustrations and fonts on their dust jackets! (am I the only person who collects nice book covers and gets rid of the books?)

how awesome are the 1970s illustrated covers on these editions of Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice?

the cover had come off this book, but I had to have it - I am going to frame it and put it on my wall :)

Sadly I'm not keeping all of these - I will be selling some of them on, but only because I have already filled a whole bookcase, plus several shelves with my books, and I'm pretty sure if I bring home any more my parents will disown me! Tomorrow I will share some peeks into my two favourite books that I purchased in Malvern... trust me, they are amazing! xoxo

thrifted finds

although car boot sale season has finished for me at the moment (unless I find a good one that runs through winter - anyone have any suggestions?) I still have lots of thrifted goodies stockpiled to keep me going until they restart in April next year. So expect to see more posts like this one....

I absolutely love that needlework book at the top - it has the best colour scheme, and such ace graphics. And you know I always love finding an interesting vintage camera like this kodak instamatic. Oh, and who doesn't need a 1970s perpetual calendar on their desk?!  (I have a similar one because for some reason I find it nearly impossible to remember what day or date it is...) Has anyone else found any good bargains lately?

PS. I've been thinking about changing the format of this post - I feel like it gets a bit long and a bit photo-heavy, but what do you all think?

thrifted finds

The car boot sale season is drawing to and end now, however fear not as I have lots of thrifted finds saved up which I will be posting very soon. The thrifting gods have been very good to me lately, so I also have lots of my personal thrifted finds (things I couldn't bear to part with) to blog about too. But for now, here are some items I sourced for Ayoka Charity Boutique in Bethnal Green.

I couldn't resist these pirate themed dominoes - the illustrations are so perfect

gotta love a thermos flask, and I'm a sucker for these old metal ones - perfect for a nice cup of hot chocolate on the go

this box of old black and white photos were all hand printed - there were quite a few taken in London during the 50s, and I kept a few of my favourites to put up in my craft room

I love little details, and it was the battered label on this box of butter knives that first caught my eye

when I was little my mum had lots of plastic jelly moulds like these in all sorts of animal shapes

love the colour and smooth shape of these plastic egg cups

one day I want a collection of vintage soda siphons - check out the 70s floral pattern on this one

I love that someone spent so much time making this owl picture from feathers and felt

the 1950s graphics and typography on this pantograph box are to die for - I was so tempted to keep it for myself

I've always had a soft spot for the iconic red British postbox, so I couldn't resist this little tin money box

although I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of the playboy empire, I loved this little 1970s dish

these miniature glasses illustrated with vintage cars are too cute, perfect for parties
