Polaroid Postcards

You all know about my love hate relationship with Polaroid. Love the idea, hate spending a fortune on film. Sigh. But just recently I discovered something that definitely tipped the scales in the 'love' direction again. On Flickr there is a Polaroid Postcard group, where members can post their address and receive a polaroid photo, complete with stamps, and sometimes even an airmail sticker, through the post, just like a postcard. Absolutely genius.

If only I could justify spending the money on film, I would so join this group! Maybe I should set one up for Fujifilm Instax....

Terrible Yellow Eyes

As a child I was completely in love with Maurice Sendak's 'Where the Wild Things Are.' As an adult, being more mature, more educated (ha!), I am even more in love with the story and the message behind it. Especially after watching Spike Jonze's film adaptation.

Quite a while ago I discovered Terrible Yellow Eyes, a website dedicated to showcasing art inspired by 'Where the Wild Things Are.' It makes me so happy seeing how many people love Sendak's book, and how each person interprets it differently through a variety of mediums. The pieces were done as a tribute to his legacy and his life. Below are just a few of my favourites.

(pretty sure the papercut below is my favourite)

Although the website stopped accepting submissions in January 2010, I'm glad it is still up so everyone can enjoy these awesome works, and hopefully be inspired too.

Illustration Love

I've been having some major confidence crises lately. Mostly about the things I create, in particular my photography. So while I work on getting myself out of this rut I'm going to post some things I find inspiring (and hope you will too.) First up are these illustrations I favourited forever ago on Flickr, and recently rediscovered. Check out the rest of ghostlings photostream too, as she has some absolutely beautiful photos on there.

Go, go, go Zoe, it's your birthday....

As I've already mentioned on my blog, it was my birthday in August, and I was 24. In order to celebrate this momentous occasion properly I had a whole week of fun and games with my nearest and dearest. On my actual birthday myself and my family went for a 'tacky day out by the sea' (my very words) in Southend-on-Sea. It was pretty darn magical, and I felt like a giant child.

milkshakes for breakfast

I got chocolate

Tatty Devine brooch (an early birthday gift from a lovely friend)

tacky souvenir shops are my favourite thing ever

followed closely by rock shops

I collect postcards

so many forms of rock in one place (plus LOVE the typography!)

stocking up on the good stuff

view from my deckchair

birthday jumping obviously (PS. take note of the sailor girl hat I forced my parents to buy me as I didn't feel nautical enough to be beside the sea)

All in all one of the best days EVER. I heart my family so much and don't say it enough. They've stuck by me for 24 years so they must be pretty cool right?

Stop Motion

I am so in love with these stop motion videos. Even if they are for something as corporate as Amazon, they're still beautiful in my eyes. My head is currently full of ideas for mini stop motion animations of my own.... if only I had an extra 5 hours in the day....

Lazy Oaf Drawing Club at the Tate Modern

As many of you will already know I work for the most awesome company ever, called Lazy Oaf. During the summer we put on a Drawing Club at the Tate Modern, to encourage visitors to the gallery to sit down and create their very own masterpiece.

and of course a self portrait (plus a random doodle) by Lazy Oaf's creator Gemma Shiel

All in all it was a lovely day with lots of lovely people stopping by. Everyone got really into, from really young children up to grandparents. I wish I'd taken more photos of people actually drawing.... I always get too shy to take pictures of people I don't know!

PS. I have the best job in the world, right?!
