New Studio Plans!

 So if you follow me on social networking sites you'll already have heard the news..... WE ARE MOVING! After almost three years of working from the spare bedroom at home, Ladybird Likes is finally relocating to our own dedicated studio space. Whilst I am eternally grateful to my long-suffering parents for letting me take over the spare room (and the kitchen/living room/hallway) whilst getting my little business off the ground, we outgrew the space around the beginning of this year, and it has been absolute chaos ever since. Having a bigger space, and not working from home, will mean I can grow Ladybird Likes further, and hopefully realise even more of my dreams!

Since I began Ladybird Likes back in 2012 I've always wanted it to be more than just a jewellery business. Obviously I absolutely LOVE my little business as it is, but there are days where I want to be more creative, to challenge myself more, to interact with other people and help share my love of craft. My dream has always been to have a big space where I can hold workshops, talks, offer business mentoring, and hold all the crafty events my brain has dreamed up during my lifetime. I've been looking for the perfect space since the summer - they have always been either too small or wayyyyy too expensive (and often a mixture of both!) But when I spotted the space in Bermondsey I knew it was perfect for us. It's a whopping 700sq ft, with huge windows letting in tons or natural light, and in a building shared with lots of other creatives, including musicians, fashion designers, and painters.

My goal is to use part of the space for running Ladybird Likes as normal, but with more space I will be expanding the range of items I sell (you'll see more stationery and gift items popping up, plus limited runs of other pieces), and offering regular goodie boxes (probably once a month as they have been so popular this year!) I will also be focusing a lot more on this blog, creating more DIY projects and sharing more information on setting up and running your own business. The rest of the space will be dedicated to you guys! I will be opening up the space for all kinds of events, workshops, and gatherings, to create a mini hub for anyone who is creative in any way. There are already numerous places running craft classes, but I've always found these to be pretty expensive, and not always a place you can hang out and natter with friends. The dream is to create somewhere affordable where people can hang out with friends, or make new friends, whilst being creative and having a cup of tea (or something a bit stronger.)

I can't share too much right now, but so far we have plans for a book club, a letter writing club (for all you snail mail lovers!), drop in craft sessions, movie and craft nights, and a series of business talks, as well as classes covering everything from weaving, to calligraphy, to creating your own terrarium. We will also be taking bookings for our pinterest inspired craft parties, which focus on getting your creative juices flowing in a beautiful setting.

So now for the real point of this blog post - WE WANT YOU TO GET INVOLVED! Without you guys this wouldn't be happening, and without you it will just be a big old empty space! So here are a few ways you can get involved/will be able to be involved;

- tweet/blog/facebook/instagram/shout from the rooftops about the project! Link people to this post so we can spread the word as much as possible in advance of launching the space. We will also blog more over the next month or so with more details, so keep checking back.

- get in touch if you have an idea for an event/want to run a workshop/would like to book a party/just want to say hello! You can always contact me via email, or by leaving a comment on this blog post, or through any of our social networking sites. I'd LOVE to hear your thoughts on this new venture.

- come to our events! This is pretty darn important - we want to put on as many different events as possible, but can only do so if people come along and get involved. Lots of our events will be one offs, so if something takes your fancy then come along!

- intern for Ladybird Likes! In 2015 we will be looking for all sorts of creative types to get involved with everything from blogging, to photography, to graphic design, to helping organise events and workshops. There will be more information on this in the new year, but if you'd like to register your interest please drop us an email!Whether you can do one day a week, or five, we want to hear from you!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support in getting this far! I'll be blogging loads more about our studio progress over the next few weeks so watch this space.

  2. Congratulations! That's a huge step, and sounds like it's going to be an awesome place. Maybe you could relocate to the Cologne area in Germany? No? Oh well, then I'll just admire and root for you from afar. Oh, and I'll be shooting you an e-mail regarding some blogging.

  3. I'm definitely going to be there! It felt really nice meeting all the wonderful people at Renegade so if there's going to a place where that can happen and we can make things together and I can learn from you guys, then that's something I'm definitely interested in. Congratulations on your new studio space, I am sure it'll be awesome!
